I write software for a living. Software that does the jobs of people. If I’m good enough, the software I work on will replace thousands of people. Some day, someone might write a piece of code that replaces my job.
For centuries now, we replace people with machines. So far, we’ve always managed to find something new to do. In the medium term, I know I can invent a few new jobs for myself. It seems only logical that we will continue to do so in the long term, even if we can’t imagine the activities yet.
But what if we won’t? If all our jobs are deprecated, the model of our work-focused society will be deprecated, too.
