I’m a UX Designer. A friend of mine is a Data Scientist. Those aren’t real jobs: you can’t study them and you can’t do an apprenticeship for them anywhere. You have to learn them by yourself.
We created those jobs. We made them because we thought the world would need us in these roles. Somebody has to look at products with a bird’s-eye view to make them awesome. Somebody has to make sense of all that data! That’s the ultimate achievement for any autodidact: creating her own job. A job that didn’t exist when she was born.
I think these kinds of jobs are always going to be the most exciting ones. Because nothing is certain, only that the job has to be done. Ray Bradbury is right:
You've got to jump off the cliff all the time and build your wings on the way down.
