People are so creative & productive that there’s a never ending stream of interestingness coming our way. Discoveries. Stories. Possiblities. One only needs to tap into this stream by opening a book, a website or starting a project. How does boredom even exist?
If you can be bored in this world, you likely suffer from lack of interest, according to Merriam-Webster. In my opinion, lack of interest is precisely the problem when I’m bored. When this happens to me, I ask myself:
What do I want to learn or enjoy or create?
I have long lists of activities, waiting to be started. If none of them interest me, the problem is inside me — and therefore I can change it. I need to overcome the initial resistance — the lack of interest — within me. The new activity will captivate me and keep me interested, once I managed to start it.
All I need to do is recognize that I’m in a state of boredom and using that recognition to provide the willpower necessary to overcome it. Knowing this, I resolve never to be bored again, for it is much too interesting here.
